For those trips when just a carry-on isn’t enough, read here about your checked baggage allowances and other helpful information.
Up to 158 cm (62 in) per bag Up to 158 centimeters or 62 inches
Total size is measured by the length + width + height of your baggage.
Up to 23 kg (50 lb) per bag Up to 23 kilograms (50 pounds) per bag
No single piece can weigh more than 32 kg (70 lb).
Whether your checked bag is free or comes with a fee depends on the type of fare you purchase and your VIPorter status. If you already have a booking, the easiest way to check is through My Bookings. Start by clicking the ‘Add Baggage’ link in your flight Options checklist, follow the instructions and we’ll tell you whether there is a fee or not.
Baggage fees are non- refundable except if a booking is cancelled within 24 hours of purchase or if your baggage is damaged or delayed.
Checked baggage fees vary and are determined by your flight’s origin and destination, as well as the channel you use to pay for the fee. Save most when you pay for your checked bags during booking on flyporter.com.
You may be able to check in a larger bag by paying an oversize or overweight fee at the airport. There must be space on the aircraft and your bag must be within size and weight limits. Please arrive at the airport at least 30 minutes prior to your recommended check-in time.
For detailed information on baggage allowances and pricing, go to Optional Services and Fees page.
Any applicable checked baggage fees can be paid for:
Online, you can use your credit card (Amex, MC, Visa, UATP), Gift Certificate or Reservation Credit. At airport check-in and the gate, Porter only accepts debit or credit payments. We are now cash free.
For assistance with adding checked bags to your reservation, please contact our Call Centre.
Paying for your checked baggage in advance is always cheaper than paying at the airport.
Taking sporting equipment on your trip? No problem! Just make sure your gear is properly packaged and meets the size and weight restrictions.
If you exceed the size and weight allowance, overweight and/ or oversized fees may apply. Items above 32 kg (70 lb) and/or 203 cm (80 inches) combined length, width and height will not be accepted for transport.
Sporting equipment is counted as one piece of your checked baggage allowance. An additional handling fee applies to bicycles and hunting firearms.
Visit Sporting Equipment for more details.
If you are travelling with your own wheelchair, mobility aid or medical device you will be able to bring them free of charge in addition to the standard baggage allowance.

For battery acceptance details, please refer to the Batteries section on the Restricted and Prohibited Items page.
If your Porter flight connects with another Porter or interline partner flight on the same booking or ticket, your baggage will be checked in and sent through to your final destination.
However, you will be required to collect your baggage and go through Customs and Immigration at the first port of entry:
Once you have cleared customs, drop off your checked baggage at a transfer or check-in desk, even if your bag has already been checked through to your final destination.
If you are connecting to a U.S. destination through Ottawa, you will have to pre-clear U.S. customs upon arrival, however you will not need to pick up your checked baggage. It will be transferred through to your final U.S. destination.
Please note that all liquids over 100mL, excluding duty free items, must be placed in checked baggage prior to security screening for connecting domestic flights. Duty free items are permitted as part of carry-on baggage while connecting, so long as the purchase meets conditions outlined by CATSA External site which may not meet accessibility guidelines.
Visit Connecting Flights to learn more.
Tips:
If you have already booked your flights directly with Porter Airlines, your itinerary will show your checked baggage allowance and which carrier’s allowances and charges apply.
For JetBlue interline reservations:
Fees are collected on a one-way basis by the airline operating the first flight for each direction of your journey.
When you travel on a single ticket with Porter and one of our airline partners, in most cases, Porter will honour the baggage policy of the most significant international carrier. However, to confirm applicable IATA regulations, we strongly recommend that you check the baggage policy of each airline on your actual itinerary.
If your journey includes more than one ticket, the baggage rules for each ticket will apply separately and they may be different.
Canadian and US military personnel are eligible for an enhanced baggage allowance when they fly on a Porter operated flight. Baggage fees will be waived for up to 3 pieces of checked baggage per person, as long as the following conditions are met:
If you meet these requirements, please have your bags tagged and checked at the airport to take advantage of the enhanced baggage allowance. If you check in online or at an airport kiosk, you should indicate that you are travelling without checked bags.
Notes:
Due to safety regulations, certain objects or substances may not be transported on an aircraft at all as they could endanger the safety of an aircraft and/or persons on board. To learn more see Restricted and Prohibited Items.
We also recommend keeping all fragile, valuable or expensive items with you in your cabin baggage, subject to carry-on baggage size and weight restrictions. This also includes travel documents, money and keys.
When transporting fragile items, it is your responsibility to ensure safe packaging with adequate cushioning material to prevent any breakage. If you choose to pack your valuable, fragile or irreplaceable property as checked baggage, Porter assumes no liability for the loss of, damage to or delay in delivery of such items.
Visit Special Items to find answers to frequently asked questions about packing requirements and restrictions for your special baggage.
All prices are per person in Canadian dollars. Taxes and fees are included in the total package price. Prices and availability are not final until reservation is confirmed with payment. Baggage fees and other optional fees charged by Porter are not included.
