Connecting flights and checked-in baggage

Connecting flights and checked-in baggage collapsed Connecting flights and checked-in baggage expanded

If your Porter flight connects with another Porter or interline partner flight on the same booking or ticket, your baggage will be checked in to your final destination.

However when entering a country (ex. U.S. to Canada or Canada to U.S.) and then connecting to a domestic flight (ex. Canada to Canada or U.S. to U.S.) you will be required to collect your baggage at the first port of entry. Once you have cleared customs drop off your checked baggage at a transfer or check-in desk, even if your bag has already been checked through to your final destination.

Please note that all liquids over 100mL, excluding duty free items, must be placed in checked baggage prior to security screening for connecting domestic flights. Duty free items are permitted as part of carry-on baggage while connecting, so long as the purchase meets conditions outlined by CATSA External site which may not meet accessibility guidelines.

Visit Connecting Flights to learn more.

Tips:

  • Always check the destination printed on your baggage tag; that’s where your bag has been checked through to.
  • Always keep your carry-on baggage, including GatePorter baggage, with you during your connection.

Baggage allowance on interline flights

Baggage allowance on interline flights collapsed Baggage allowance on interline flights expanded

If you have already booked your flights directly with Porter Airlines, your itinerary will show your checked baggage allowance and which carrier’s allowances and charges apply.

JetBlue

For JetBlue interline reservations:

Fees are collected on a one-way basis by the airline operating the first flight for each direction of your journey.

Other partners

When you travel on a single ticket with Porter and one of our airline partners, in most cases, Porter will honour the baggage policy of the most significant international carrier. However, to confirm applicable IATA regulations, we strongly recommend that you check the baggage policy of each airline on your actual itinerary.

If your journey includes more than one ticket, the baggage rules for each ticket will apply separately and they may be different.

Military personnel baggage

Military personnel baggage collapsed Military personnel baggage expanded

Canadian and US military personnel are eligible for an enhanced baggage allowance when they fly on a Porter operated flight. Baggage fees will be waived for up to 3 pieces of checked baggage per person, as long as the following conditions are met:

  • No single piece can exceed 203 cm (80 in) total dimensions or weigh more than 32 kg (70 lb).
  • Military identification must be shown at airport check in.
  • Military personnel may be active or retired.
  • Military personnel may be travelling for business or personal reasons.

If you meet these requirements, please have your bags tagged and checked at the airport to take advantage of the enhanced baggage allowance. If you check in online or at an airport kiosk, you should indicate that you are travelling without checked bags.

Note: Family members or friends travelling on the same or separate reservation are not eligible for the enhanced baggage allowance.

Items you must not pack in your checked-in baggage

Items you must not pack in your checked-in baggage collapsed Items you must not pack in your checked-in baggage expanded

Due to safety regulations, certain objects or substances may not be transported on an aircraft at all as they could endanger the safety of an aircraft and/or persons on board. To learn more see Restricted and Prohibited Items.

We also recommend keeping all fragile, valuable or expensive items with you in your cabin baggage, subject to carry-on baggage size and weight restrictions. This also includes travel documents, money and keys.

When transporting fragile items, it is your responsibility to ensure safe packaging with adequate cushioning material to prevent any breakage. If you choose to pack your valuable, fragile or irreplaceable property as checked baggage, Porter assumes no liability for the loss of, damage to or delay in delivery of such items.

Visit  Special Items to find answers to frequently asked questions about packing requirements and restrictions for your special baggage.

30-minute delivery guarantee

30-minute delivery guarantee collapsed 30-minute delivery guarantee expanded

Quick and efficient service as soon as you touch ground.

Porter is enhancing your experience of flying more refined with a quick 30-minute delivery guarantee to the baggage claim. Whether you’re travelling for business or just arriving home, our goal is to help you get on your way as quickly as possible.

How it works

All checked bags will reach the baggage claim within 30 minutes of the aircraft arriving at the gate of any airport. If your bags do not arrive within the 30-minute guarantee, a $25 voucher will be issued to you for a future Porter flight within six months of it being issued. Please read the terms and conditions below.

What if my bags were delayed beyond 30 minutes?

You simply need to file a report with an on-site Porter agent at the baggage claim within one hour of the flight arrival to be credited with an electronic voucher on our file. One voucher is issued per qualified passenger (that’s for you and you only) for one or more checked bag(s). The offer does not apply to oversize or special handling items, such as golf clubs, skis or assistive devices.

Terms and Conditions

The 30-minute baggage delivery guarantee is offered on Porter Airlines operated flights only and not applicable if your journey contains a partner airline flight.

Checked items delivered to the odd size/oversize baggage claim area (e.g. oversize items, golf clubs, skis, surfboards, assistive devices, firearms) are not covered by the guarantee.

The guarantee does not cover non-revenue/space available travelers, including Porter Airlines employees or their travel companions, and employees of other airlines travelling on industry discounted tickets.

Porter Airlines reserves the right to suspend the Baggage Delivery Guarantee in the event of an airport baggage system malfunction, severe weather, or other conditions out of the airlines' control that prohibit timely baggage delivery, or during periods of extremely high traffic by posting an advance notice on this web page.

For those who qualify, one voucher will be issued per qualified passenger, for one or more checked bags.

Baggage delivery guarantee vouchers must be redeemed online at www.flyporter.com or through the Porter Call Centre within six months of issuance.

Baggage delivery guarantee vouchers are not transferable and may not be redeemed for cash, bartered, or sold.

Baggage guarantee suspended for holiday season

The volume of extra bags and gifts during the holiday season means that our Baggage Guarantee has to be temporarily suspended from December 15, 2017 to January 8, 2018. We will continue to make every effort to make sure that your bag gets to you at baggage claim within 30 minutes of landing. However we are not able to offer vouchers during this season.
