Your travel with Porter is healthy and safe

The safety of our passengers remains our top priority. Our teams continue to enforce the enhanced processes for your check-in, boarding, and in-flight experience as part of our Healthy Flights program. We look forward to travelling with you.

Preparing for travel

  • Sanitizing the plane

In addition to being cleaned between flights, our planes are fogged every 25 days with Zoono, an electrostatic spray that continuously kills 99.99% of bacteria and viruses, including COVID-19. This process disinfects 100% of the surfaces inside the plane and continues to protect them for 28 days based on thorough testing which we conduct on an ongoing basis. This technology is approved by Health Canada and is used by the London Underground subway system.

  • Cleaning the airport

Check-in and gate counters are cleaned and disinfected regularly throughout the day by Porter and our airport partners.

Check-in and at the gate

  • Encouraging physical distancing

Signs and barriers help maintain physical distancing between you, other passengers and Porter team members throughout the airport. Our team members will also ask for your help to minimize exchanging travel documents and ID.

  • Sanitizing surfaces

All common surfaces and high touch areas such as counters and payment terminals will be sanitized regularly by our staff.

Getting on and off the plane

  • More room at boarding

You and your fellow passengers will board the aircraft in small groups. We encourage physical distancing, whenever possible.

  • Deplaning by row

We’ll ask you to stay seated and leave the plane one row at a time to keep a safe distance between passengers.

  • GatePorter collection process

GatePorter bags will be available outside the plane where passengers can stand, physically distanced, to gather their items.

On board

  • Excellent air quality

Our aircraft maintain a blend of fresh air from outside the plane and air that comes directly from our onboard hospital-standard HEPA filters. This process removes 99.9% of particles 0.1-0.3 micrometers in diameter. All cabin air is fully refreshed every 4 minutes, on average.

  • Medical support from MedAire

Porter's crewmembers can contact MedAire at any time during flight for assistance in addressing a passenger's medical needs. Trained on airline protocols, procedures and onboard medical equipment, their dedicated emergency department physicians are there to support both team members and passengers.

  • Expanded cleaning processes

Expanded onboard cleaning includes electrostatic fogging, hand-cleaning of high-touch areas, and regular inspections.

  • High quality air onboard

Air onboard is of a very high quality. Hospital-grade filters clean the air, and it is fully changed out every 4 minutes.

What you can do to travel safely

  • Wear a mask

Masks are no longer required when traveling through Canadian airports and on board flights to and from Canada. Passengers are, however, encouraged to wear a mask, especially in crowded areas of the airport for added safety.

  • Maintain physical distancing whenever possible

When possible, remain two meters or six feet away from other passengers to limit unnecessary contact.

  • Don’t fly if you’re not feeling well

If you have concerns, please verify with your health professional. Review your options online or call us at 1-888-619-8622.

  • Keep informed about jurisdictional requirements

Ensure you know what requirements exist when travelling. Visit our Travel Info Centre for more information.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to wear face protection, such as a mask?

Masks are no longer required when traveling through Canadian airports and on board flights to and from Canada. Passengers are, however, welcome to wear a mask, especially in crowded areas of the airport, for added safety.

What are Porter’s procedures for cleaning and disinfecting the planes?

Porter has expanded its already extensive cleaning processes to include electrostatic fog spraying of all cabins. Your plane is fogged every 25 days with an electrostatic spray, Zoono, to disinfect the places you touch most often onboard, like tray tables, handles, and seat belts. This process kills 99.99% of bacteria and viruses, including COVID-19. It disinfects 100% of the surfaces inside the plane and continues to protect them for 28 days. This technology is approved by Health Canada.

What is electrostatic spraying, and is it safe?

Electrostatic spraying of the water-based liquid disinfectant, Zoono, is conducted throughout our airplane cabins. Once sprayed, this disinfectant protection is in place for 28 days. The sprayers electrically charge and disperse disinfectant so that it clings to surfaces throughout the cabin. The spray reaches around surfaces, rather than just the top surface like a cleaning spray you might use at home. The disinfectant is effective against coronavirus and other communicable diseases. It is immediately safe for passengers and Porter team members after application. Electrostatic spray has been safely used for years throughout many fields and is currently used by the London Underground subway system.

What is Porter’s onboard air purity system?

Like all modern commercial aircraft, Porter’s fleet of Dash 8-400s uses an onboard air filtration system with hospital-standard HEPA filters. This system changes out the air onboard the plane, every four minutes on average. HEPA filters capture 99.9% of particles 0.1-0.3 micrometers in diameter, including the coronavirus. In addition, research done by Boeing indicated that the design of the cabin and airflow system creates the equivalent of over 6 feet / 2 meters of social distancing between every passenger, even on a full flight. The risk of exposure to COVID-19 is further reduced on a narrow bodied aircraft, such as those flown by Porter, compared to a wide bodied. While onboard the plane, you can also help by ensuring your overhead air vent is open. This creates better downward air flow and a higher volume of air being filtered

What are airports doing to keep me safer?

All of the airports where we fly have expanded their sanitation programs. These include increased cleaning of shared surfaces, such as check-in kiosks or counters. Please consult the website of the airports you will be using for more information.
