Orlando-Melbourne is a snug seaside city along Florida’s Space Coast. Prepare for take-off on a flight from Montréal to Orlando-Melbourne. You’ll land in a world of beautiful beaches, decorated military history, and fine art collections.
Stop by the Kennedy Space Center and you may witness the next space launch. Get a closer look at past spaceflight programs in the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex. Its exhibits include the Lunar Theater, where you can watch the historic moon landing of Apollo 11 in 1969.
Outside the complex, stroll through the Rocket Garden for a face-to-face encounter with more out of this world vessels.
For a more down-to-earth adventure, cross the Indian River Lagoon to Melbourne’s never-ending beaches along the Atlantic Ocean. Spend a lazy afternoon sunbathing on the golden sand in Indian Harbour Beach, a vacationer’s paradise and a natural sanctuary.
Enjoy a picnic in the beach’s 27-acre Gleason Park. Take advantage of the park’s athletic facilities, including tennis courts and a baseball diamond. Enjoy a relaxing stroll along its boardwalk, lined with shaded gazebos, ending your walk along a tranquil lake.
Back across the Indian River Lagoon, in downtown Melbourne, take time to see the Liberty Bell Memorial Museum celebrating American Independence. At the centre of the museum you’ll find a replica of the Liberty Bell, commissioned from the Whitechapel Bell Foundry where the original 1751 bell was cast.
Visit the adjoining Melbourne Military Memorial Park for a moment of quiet reflection. While you’re there, sit in the shade on one of its meditation benches, and browse the dedications to America’s war heroes.
Across town, the Foosaner Art Museum houses an assortment of early 20th century artwork. Known for its large collection from German impressionist painter, Ernst Oppler, current exhibitions showcase the work of local Florida artists. Make sure to attend a popular pottery or painting class at the museum when you fly from Montréal to Orlando-Melbourne.
Eau Gallie began as the homestead of a former United States Army officer in 1859. A year later, it was officially recognized as a town. Today, its residents are determined to retain its historic charm. Travel to one of the most historic parts of Florida when you fly from Montréal to Orlando-Melbourne.
Visit the Eau Gallie Historic District Main Street for a unique take on the area’s artistic and cultural heritage. Bridging the old and the new, the centre has literally changed the city’s landscape. Commissioning murals across the area, the colourful artwork depicts native wildlife and the cultural growth of the neighbourhood.
However, Eau Gallie’s historic homes continue to retain much of their old-world appeal. Head over to the Historic Rossetter House Museum for a peek into the past. The home was owned by the Rossetter family, who settled in Eau Gallie back in 1902. Today, you can take a guided tour of the beautiful home and its lavish gardens.
Another historic house to visit is the Treutler House, later known as the Winchester Symphony House, which shelters the offices of the Brevard Symphony Orchestra. The building may be a bit on the small side for a lively concert, but you can walk over to the King Center for the Performing Arts, for the orchestra’s soul-stirring renditions.
On the vibrant Highland Avenue, you’ll discover some more things to do in Melbourne. Help preserve history with a few snapshots of the 19th century buildings around Eau Gallie Square. These memories are a keepsake until your next trip to Orlando-Melbourne from Montréal.
Fly from Montréal to Orlando-Melbourne for the sweet sound of waves rolling into Cocoa Beach.
A renowned surfing destination, soak in the seawater while riding a perfect wave towards the sandy shores. If you’ve always wanted to learn to surf, then you’ve come to the right place; you’ll find plenty of willing teachers along the miles of sandy beaches.
Watch the spectacular antics of the surfers from the Cocoa Beach Pier. With a reputation as the surfing capital of the East Coast, this grandstand is the place to be for surfing talent. Remember to snap a photo before running along the 800-foot boardwalk, trailing into the Atlantic Ocean.
The pier’s towering presence this far out into the water makes it a great fishing location. Even if you don’t catch a bite, the nearby restaurants serve up some delicious seafood. After your meal, explore some of the shops along the beach. You’ll be tempted by the surf shops with their trendy surfboards and hip accessories.
Take a break from the water and head over to Lori Wilson Park. Stroll down the “I Dream of Jeannie” Lane, named in honour of the hit 1960s TV show. Much of the series, about a genie and astronaut, was filmed in Cocoa Beach. Escape into the nearby ice cream parlours on North Atlantic Avenue, where you can fulfill a wish for something sweet.
Walk down the park’s winding boardwalk back to the beach. The elevated pathway crosses over a small coastal forest, with its own airborne residents including songbirds that fly south every winter.
