Famous sites at every turn with flights to New York City

A bite out of the Big Apple awaits when you fly to New York.

Discover famous and iconic landmarks in every part of the city that never sleeps. Visiting the exquisite Empire State Building, charming Central Park, and the sightly Statue of Liberty, you’ll find the big apple delivers on non-stop attractions and appeal. With so much going on in the city all year round, the best time to fly to New York is anytime.

When looking for a place to start after your Porter flight to New York lands, look no further than Manhattan’s Museum Mile, running along the eastern edge of Central Park. This stretch of Fifth Avenue holds a comprehensive collection of museums and galleries. If it’s art you’re after, follow the sloping exterior of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum to see modern masterpieces.

Art and history go hand-in-hand at the Metropolitan Museum of Art (also known as The Met). With an impressive two million works of art spanning over five millennia, you’ll get a taste of creativity through the ages. As one of the largest art museums in the United States, even the building itself is worth marvelling at.

Travel into New York’s history in the Gilded Age mansion of Henry Clay Frick. This historic house is home to Frick’s private art collection, which fills every wall of this magnificent manor.

After flying to New York, try giving other means of travel a try at Grand Central Station. This Midtown Manhattan railroad terminal dates back to 1903 and still serves as one of the city’s main transportation hubs. From its astrological ceiling mural to its bustling oyster bar, Grand Central Station proves to be a shopping, dining, and cultural destination just as much as it is for transportation. Plan to give it more time than the usual 20 minutes between catching trains.

Located on a repurposed railroad, the elevated High Line has become a landmark linear park. Gaze out to the surrounding architecture of the worldly city and discover diverse plant displays while walking this unique park’s 2.5 km length. Find lush greenery year round in the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, a nature-loving jewel of the outer boroughs.

While you’re in Brooklyn, take advantage of this borough’s iconic New York experiences. Whether you’re traversing the Brooklyn Bridge or simply indulging in a slice of New York style Pizza, this bustling borough has tons to enjoy.

With so many things to do when you fly to New York, you’ll see exactly why this city never sleeps.

DUMBO

Brooklyn’s bright idea

When your flight to New York lands, book it to Brooklyn to see DUMBO, one of New York’s coolest and photogenic neighbourhoods.

The name DUMBO stands for exactly where you can find this area - Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass. With a quick ride on the East River Ferry, or a stroll/cycle across the Brooklyn Bridge, DUMBO is easily accessible from the bustle of Manhattan..

The shores of the East River is where you should start your visit to this Brooklyn neighbourhood. Here you will find Brooklyn Bridge Park, an 85-acre stretch that began as a dock for ferries. Today, however, it is being revitalized to include food markets, rolling green lawns, and spectacular views.

For a different view of the East River, take a spin on Jane’s Carousel. Built in the 1920s, you can see the city from a whole new angle aboard a wooden horse with tons of history.

Once you’ve seen the river, it’s time to eat at The River Café under the Brooklyn Bridge. This refined restaurant consistently ranks as one of DUMBO’s best restaurants, and is often seen as one of the best places to eat in New York. With an upscale dress code and savoury menu, The River has been serving up luxury at its most delicious since 1977. Elegant, world-class dining is just a flight to New York away.

DUMBO’s warehouses are also stocked with top-notch restaurants. Modern French food and organic Italian fare fill the plates of these former industrial buildings. Seasoned with history, the warehouses are sure to deliver amazing dining experiences.

In the warehouses, you can even get creative by exploring several art galleries. The DUMBO art scene, like its food scene, is fresh and experimental. Staged in a former spice milling factory, St. Ann’s Warehouses holds plays to spice things up. The all-female artists collective of the AIR Gallery is a breath of fresh air. With regular events and rotating exhibitions, this gallery knows how to keep things new and exciting, so fly to New York for some unique experiences.

One of the best byproducts of the area’s artist-heavy demographics are the artisanal goods on sale in the neighbourhood’s shops. Small boutiques hold a bevy handicrafts and art, a perfect way to remember your trip when flying out of New York City.

Williamsburg

Where creativity lives

When you book a flight to New York City, see what waits beyond Manhattan with a visit to Williamsburg.

When you dive into the history of Brooklyn’s Williamsburg, you’ll see that ten years ago, this neighbourhood was a hotbed of creativity, with artists, designers, and DJs as its primary inhabitants. Now, a newer version of this lively area has emerged, including elegance and an upscale feel, more so than its original incarnation. When you fly to New York, you can witness the difference for yourself, with just a 10-minute ferry ride from Manhattan’s Lower East Side.

Creative spirit in Williamsburg is still alive and well, found largely in the area’s many art galleries. Photography, video, and installation art by mid-career artists can be found at the Front Room Gallery. You won’t have any problem finding this exceptional gallery thanks to its fun, brightly-coloured exterior. At the Music Hall of Williamsburg, the performing arts light up the stage. As an offshoot of Manhattan’s popular Bowery Ballroom, you can trust the Music Hall to have good taste. Your inner creative side is waiting to be channeled with a flight to New York City and a journey through Williamsburg.

As an essential location when your flight to New York City lands, head on over to one of Williamsburg’s former performance venues, McCarren Park pool, to make a huge splash. For years, this enormous pool (three times as large as a standard Olympic pool) remained drained during the summer and hosted concerts in its empty shell. The pool has now returned to its former water-filled glory, but still hosts events on its decks. Make your way to McCarren Park’s 35 acres to experience the tradition of film screenings and music performances that add a little colour to this green space.

Get closer to something hip and hoppy at a Williamsburg bar when flying to New York City. You can even head right to the source of the beer in the Brooklyn Brewery to get up close and personal with your brew. Take a tasting tour to learn about the making of both the beer and brewery, as guides lead you through Williamsburg’s industrial past through to its current beer scene. A stop in at this brewery will show you why Brooklyn’s Williamsburg is the toast of New York.

Make the most out of your flight to New York City with an essential visit to the non-stop excitement of Williamsburg.
