Connecting Flights

When you deplane your flight, airport signage will guide you throughout the airport for a smooth journey to your connecting flight. If you need assistance with a flight connection, just ask a Porter airport representative who will be happy to help.

Connection times

For a smooth connection between flights, it's important to give yourself sufficient time to deplane the arriving aircraft and make it over to your connection gate to board your next flight on time.

Minimum connection time (MCT) is the absolute least amount of time an able-bodied person may need to clear customs, transfer baggage, go through security and when required, change terminals. Families travelling with small children and travellers with health or mobility concerns may need a longer connection time in some airports.

Connection times provided in the tables below apply to Porter Airlines flights only. The connection times for flights operated by other airlines may vary.

Baggage and transferring

Baggage and transferring collapsed Baggage and transferring expanded

If your trip includes a transfer, in most scenarios, your checked-in baggage will be sent to your final destination. The baggage claim tag that you receive when dropping off your baggage always states your bag’s final destination.

When transferring, you only need to collect your baggage and check it in again for your connecting flight, if:

  • You have purchased 2 or more tickets from different airlines;
  • You need to clear Customs and Immigration;
  • You arrive at one airport and your connecting flight departs from another airport.

All liquids over 100mL, excluding duty-free items, must be placed in checked baggage prior to security screening for connecting domestic flights. Duty-free items are permitted as part of carry-on baggage while connecting, so long as the purchase meets conditions outlined by CATSA External site which may not meet accessibility guidelines.

Please note that additional baggage restrictions may be imposed at the airport without prior notice.

Disability and mobility assistance

Disability and mobility assistance collapsed Disability and mobility assistance expanded

If your travel includes a transit, please ensure that you allow sufficient time between flights to facilitate the transfer.

If you need assistance while transferring to your connecting flight, we’re happy to help. All we ask is for a little patience on your part!

To better assist you and for the safety of everyone, we ask that you remain seated until other passengers have left the aircraft. At that point, our ground staff can come onboard to help you.

If you are travelling with your wheelchair, it will be returned to you immediately after disembarking at the gate. The exceptions are some battery operated wheelchairs or scooters that may require special handling. These assistive devices will be returned at Baggage Claim and you will be offered a service wheelchair for use until your own wheelchair has been retrieved.

If you have purchased a ticket that includes travel on another airline, you will need to notify the other airline of your specific travel needs as well. Be aware that not all airlines offer the same type of assistance.
