Here is some more information about web and airport check-in our passengers frequently ask for.
You can check in online starting 24 hours before your scheduled departure time. Web check-in closes 60 minutes prior to scheduled departure.
Airport check-in generally opens 2 hours before departure (or during the given station operating hours). We recommend that you check-in for your Porter flight at least 60 minutes prior to departure for your domestic flight, and 90 minutes prior to departure for your international flight to/from the U.S.
During web check-in you can complete the following:
Web check-in is available for passengers with Basic fare. During online check-in, you can update your VIPorter number, sign up for flight notifications, change or upgrade your seat (subject to availability), and register any checked baggage. You can also upgrade your Basic fare features by purchasing a Basic Express that includes a standard carry-on bag, and an online boarding pass.
Electronic boarding passes are not issued to Basic fare passengers, unless you are a VIPorter member with Venture, Ascent and First status, or you have purchased a Basic Express during web check-in. After check-in is complete, you are required to pick up your boarding pass at the airport check-in counter.
If you are flying in the next 24 hours, you will be able to check in your flight using the Check-in widget on the homepage. For VIPorter members who have logged in on the app and enabled notifications, a reminder will be sent when it’s time to check in.
Web check-in is not available for the following reservations:
If there are no seats available to select during online check-in, you will still be able to check in for your flight and get your boarding pass. A seat will be assigned to you at the gate.
Yes, when your connecting flights are operated by Porter, you will receive a separate boarding pass for each of your flights when you check in.
After completing your check in online, you can choose to receive an electronic boarding pass directly to your mobile device, or you may print your boarding pass at the airport using a self-service kiosk (if applicable).
If you need assistance, you can speak to a Porter agent at the check-in counter. You must obtain your boarding passes prior to check-in cut off time applicable to the airport you are departing from.
Porter offers mobile boarding passes for flights departing airports that are equipped with barcode scanners at security lines and boarding gates. The mobile boarding pass consists of a two-dimensional barcode, as well as printed passenger information (name, date, flight number, seat, etc.), and can be saved to a mobile device such as a smartphone. Mobile boarding passes can be received via email after checking in at flyporter.com.
It is advisable to save the mobile boarding pass directly to your mobile device, in case you lose internet access at the security line or the gate. It is advisable to lock the screen orientation on your mobile device so that the image does not switch between portrait and landscape view. Porter also recommends maximizing the brightness of your display for scanning.
Apple Wallet is a standard, pre-installed <a href="{0}">application</a> on all Apple devices (previously known as Passbook). It allows you to store your mobile boarding passes for quick and easy access. All Porter passengers who use the Apple operating iOS 6 or higher on their iPhone can save their Porter boarding pass in their Apple Wallet.
Anyone can download their mobile boarding pass directly to their mobile device by tapping the “Add to Apple Wallet” button on the confirmation page, after successfully completing check-in on a mobile browser. You can also choose to email your electronic boarding pass to your inbox. If you open the email on a supported Apple iPhone or iPod, you will be able to add the boarding pass to your Apple Wallet. If you accidentally delete a boarding pass from your Apple Wallet, you can add it again following the same steps.
It is possible to use it on a smartphone with a different operating system if the appropriate app is installed on the system (e.g. PassWallet on Android or Windows). In this case, the boarding pass needs to be requested by email, and can then be imported as a file attachment (.pkpass). Porter will support you with any problems on an iPhone, but not with other operating systems.
Not at the present time. In the unlikely event of a flight delay or other flight irregularity, we will provide you with notifications via the email addresses associated with your reservation.
For gate changes, please check the airport flight information displays for most up-to-date information.
As long as your reservation is eligible for online changes, you will be able to change it online or on the Porter app.
If you have already checked in online, you can retrieve your booking through Web Check-In again and reprint your boarding pass, request an electronic boarding pass to be sent to your email or print a copy of your boarding pass at a kiosk at the airport (where available).
If you are travelling with carry-on baggage only, you can proceed directly to security with your boarding pass and valid government issued photo ID.
If you are travelling with checked baggage, simply check it on the way to your flight at one of the designated Porter baggage drop-off counters located in the check-in area. All passengers must observe baggage check-in cut off time.
All passengers must be at the gate and ready to board the aircraft at least 15 min prior to departure on domestic and 20 min prior to departure on international flights. Boarding closes 10 minutes prior to departure. Any passenger not at the gate, even if they have checked in and received a boarding pass, may be denied boarding and will not be entitled to denied boarding compensation.
You may think that cut-off times are set according to the amount of time it would take a passenger to get from check-in to gate. If that was the case, check-in would not have to close early.
When check-in closes, our operations teams get to work to get everything finalized for departure. They confirm the location of checked-in passengers in seats and verify how much baggage goes into the baggage compartment to ensure that the weight of the aircraft is balanced front to back – an important safety requirement. Final calculations can only be completed once check-in closes.
The ground handling team then makes their way to the aircraft with checked baggage in tow and with the weight and balance details provided by the operations team. Should the number of passengers or bags change, bags and/or passengers may need to be moved around at the last minute.
At the terminal, around the time check-in closes, the gate staff prints the finalized flight manifest and hand it to the captain.
As you can imagine, it can be quite a hustle to get everything ready to close the gate before departure. Re-opening check in for just one passenger or bag could result in us having to repeat some or all of these processes and a delayed flight.
