Your fare determines what you can bring onboard with you. For example, if you are travelling on a Basic fare you are only permitted one personal item (ex. purse or laptop bag), with all other articles to be checked.
If you are travelling on a Standard, Flexible, Freedom, Navigate or Ultimate fare, you can bring two free carry-on articles onboard:
All carry-on baggage must fit in the sizing device located both at check-in and the gate areas. Note that rollaboard suitcases will not fit in the overhead bins on some of our aircraft and will need to be gate checked with a GatePorter tag for drop-off and pickup plane-side at the arrival gate.
For more information review our Carry-on Baggage section.
Basic fare does not include a standard carry-on or GatePorter service. However, you have the option to upgrade your Basic fare features on the day of travel by purchasing a Basic Express, either during web check-in or at the airport. With a Basic Express, you are entitled to a standard carry-on bag and an electronic boarding pass, which would allow you to skip the lines and proceed straight to security.
If you are travelling with an infant under the age of 2 on your lap, you may bring a diaper bag to carry their belongings, in addition to your personal carry-on allowance.
Passengers travelling with children are permitted to carry, free of charge, one stroller and one car seat per child.
For detailed information on allowances and other related items, please review Baggage Allowance for Children and Infants.
Yes, mobility aids or any other assistive devices can be brought on board at no extra charge in addition to the standard baggage allowance, as long as they are for your personal use. This includes, but is not limited to wheelchairs, scooters, canes, crutches, walkers, braces, CPAP machines and personal oxygen concentrators.
We will carry your assistive devices as priority checked baggage when stored in the cargo hold, or in the aircraft cabin where space permits.
The following items are also not counted against your carry-on allowance:
No, unfortunately that is not possible. The space on board is limited, so in the interest of your own and other passengers' safety and comfort, weight and size limitations of carry-on baggage must be respected.
Safety regulations limit the quantity of liquids, aerosols and gels that can be transported in your carry-on baggage. To speed up security screening, please ensure that the liquids, personal/toiletry items and non-solid food in your carry-on are packaged properly before arriving at the airport.
Porter is pleased to allow your cat or small dog to travel with you in the aircraft cabin, in an airline-approved carrier, provided the carrier fits under the seat in front of you. For cost details and for more information on travelling with your pet, please refer to our Pets Travelling in the Aircraft Cabin page.
Designated service animals for special needs passengers are always permitted onboard with proper documentation.
You can bring solid foods like sandwiches, fruit, nuts, etc. on board. However, liquid foods like soups, pudding, jams, sauces or yoghurt, are subject to the same restrictions as all other liquids in your carry-on. To learn more about travelling with food and perishable items visit our Special Items page.
Whether your checked bag is free or comes with a fee depends on the type of fare you purchase and your VIPorter status. If you already have a booking, the easiest way to check is through My Bookings. Start by clicking the Add Baggage link in your Flight Options checklist, follow the instructions and we’ll tell you whether there is a fee or not.
Checked baggage fees vary and are determined by your flight’s origin and destination, as well as the channel you use to pay for the fee. For full details on Porter’s checked baggage policy, please visit our Checked Baggage page.
Any applicable checked baggage fees can be paid for:
Online, you can use your credit card (Amex, MC, Visa, UATP), Gift Certificate or Reservation Credit. At the check-in counter and the gate, Porter only accepts debit or credit payments. We are now cash free.
Paying for your checked baggage online is always cheaper than paying at the airport.
Your oversized and/or overweight baggage needs to be verified at airport check-in to ensure that your bag is within allowable size and weight limits. We suggest that you arrive at the airport at least 30 minutes prior to your recommended check-in time to allow sufficient time for screening. For more details, visit our Checked Baggage page.
Porter baggage fees are not based on kilos. The maximum weight of a standard suitcase is 23 kg (50lb). If your bag weighs more than 23kg (50lb) and does not exceed 32 kg (70 lb) an overweight bag fee is collected at the airport.
Bags weighing more than 32 kg will not be accepted. Some special items, such as wheelchairs, exceeding the maximum weight/dimensions may be accepted with prior approval.
Yes, you can check a properly packaged TV as part of your checked baggage as long as it is in a box that does not measure more than 158cm (62in) total dimension and does not weigh more than 32 kg (70 lb). Overweight and oversize fees may apply.
Canadian and US military personnel are eligible for an enhanced baggage allowance when they fly on a Porter operated flight. Baggage fees will be waived for up to 3 pieces of checked baggage per person, as long as the following conditions are met:
If you meet these requirements, please have your bags tagged and checked at the airport to take advantage of the enhanced baggage allowance. If you check in online or at an airport kiosk, you should indicate that you are travelling without checked bags.
Note: Family members or friends travelling on the same or separate reservation are not eligible for the enhanced baggage allowance.
Sporting equipment is subject to standard baggage policies and baggage fees where applicable. Most sporting equipment can be checked in or carried on board provided it is properly packaged and meets the size and weight restrictions. For more information regarding packing requirements and restrictions for your gear, visit Sporting Equipment.
