Travelling With a Pet FAQ

Cat and dog travel

Pet travel is subject to a $50 fee (plus applicable taxes) per direction and will be charged in your booking currency. Pet travel is booked on a space available basis. Porter allows up to two (2) pets in the cabin on any given flight.

We encourage you to register your pet within 24 hours of completing your booking. This will ensure that, if your pet cannot be accommodated on the flight(s) and date(s) you selected, your ticket can be changed without any change fees (difference in fare may apply) or refunded without charge. After 24 hours, any changes to your booking will be subject to applicable change and cancellation fees.

The ability to book your pet on a specific flight is dependent on spaces available for pets.

If you’ve booked your reservation through Porter directly, you will need to contact our Call Centre to change your reservation and our agent will adjust your pet’s reservation at the same time, based on availability.

If your booking was made through a travel agency, you will need to make sure to contact our Call Centre immediately after changing your reservation in order to change your pet’s reservation. Ask your travel agent to first confirm pet in cabin service availability on the new flight before finalizing your reservation change.

If you are taking your pet out of the country or bringing your pet into Canada, you are responsible for meeting all customs and/or regulatory entrance/exit requirements. For international trips, passengers should contact the appropriate embassy or consulate in advance to ensure all country-specific entry procedures are followed.

A health certificate is not required for domestic travel; however it is a good idea to check the health of your pet before any long trip to make sure it is fit to travel.

Since it is important that your pet is as relaxed as possible during the flight, familiarization with the carrier is essential. Veterinarians recommend purchasing the pet carrier in advance, so that your pet may spend time near it and maybe venture inside.

In addition, you should exercise your dog before departure. Carry a leash with you so you’re able to also walk him before entering the airport.

Giving your pet tranquilizers and other medications is not recommended. We encourage you to consult your veterinarian first.

No, your pet must remain in the carrier at all times. The carrier must remain closed under the seat for the duration of the flight.
