Site Accessibility

Porter is committed to providing an accessible online environment for all visitors to our website, the same way we are committed to making air travel accessible to all of our passengers.

We are actively working on improvements in order to increase our website’s accessibility and usability while making flyporter.com user-friendly for the widest possible audience, regardless of ability or technology. Our goal is to meet or exceed the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0. (AA) as the technical standard for information and services on our website.

We appreciate your patience as we continue to work on fulfilling this commitment.

Compliance with accessibility standards

Here are some of the principles we are using to make our website easier for anyone to use:

Consistent navigation

  • Every page contains a link to the home page, site map and search box.
  • All pages are built based on templates to ensure consistency.
  • Once there is an understanding of how our pages and menus work, navigating through the site is easy.

Improved site structure and labelling

  • We are adding appropriate structural headers, titles, HTML mark-ups and other formatting to every page for easier access with assistive technology.
  • We are adding alternative text and captions to make navigation easier for users with visual or hearing impairment.
  • Link text contains specific information as to the purpose of the link.
  • All content images on our website are provided with descriptive ALT attributes.

Improved keyboard access

  • New pages are being developed to include functions that are available using a keyboard – no need to use a mouse.
  • All dropdown menus should work correctly using a keyboard in all supported browsers.

Improved colour contrast

  • There is adequate colour contrast ratio for text and any information conveyed with colour is still readable if a user is unable to distinguish colour.

Accessibility testing

As part of our development process and ongoing website maintenance, the Porter team tests flyporter.com using several different assistive technologies, including screen readers, screen magnifiers and speech recognition software. Our team also uses tools that validate our HTML against W3C standards and analyse colour contrast for compliance to ensure the most optimal experience for all visitors.

In addition, Porter conducts unmoderated, remote accessibility testing with end users. Participants are recruited from Canada and the United States and use their own computers and assistive technology set-ups. User testing findings are used to guide our efforts to improve the user experience specifically for those using assistive devices.
