Kejimkujik National Park & National Historic Site

A two-hour drive from downtown Halifax, Kejimkujik National Park and National Historic Site features lush forests, white sandy beaches, and an abundance of wildlife. Kejimkujik – also known as Keji by locals – is the first National Park to also be recognized as a National Historic Site.
The park's name comes from the Mi'kmaw word “kejimkuji'jk”, which means “little fairies”. For thousands of years, Indigenous people used the canoe routes here to travel between the Bay of Fundy and the Atlantic Coast. During their journeys, they left stone carvings (or petroglyphs) on slate outcrops around lakeshoes – some of these petroglyphs are estimated to be about 800-1,000 years old. Today, park visitors can see and learn about the petroglyphs on guided tours.

Bike trails wind through forests and by rivers, giving cyclists unmatched views. From May to October, camping is permitted in the park – so when it's time to call it a day, set up your tent and sleep under the stars.
