On the tours, you can visit a former mining camp or explore Sudbury’s meteorite crater. In the Copper Cliff tour, you’ll uncover the entire process of converting raw ore to a polished metal.
Hovering near Dynamic Earth is a famous Sudbury point of interest. Snap a photo with the Big Nickel, a massive model of the 1951 Canadian five cent coin. On the tails’ side of the nickel is a refinery with a very big stack. On the heads’ side is an outline of King George VI.

Take a walk through this scenic lakeside community after your flight from Halifax to Sudbury touches down.
Bell Park is a charming Sudbury neighbourhood neatly nestled along the shores of Ramsey Lake. The community shares its name with a rambling green space popular with locals for its amphitheatre and beach.
Spanning the neighbourhood’s border along Ramsey Lake is the Bell Park Boardwalk. A great spot to people watch, you can blend seamlessly in with the locals out for a jog or walking their dogs. On opposite ends of the trail, you can head towards Bell Park or check out the exciting exhibits at Science North.
One of the most popular museums in Northern Ontario, Science North is filled with fun things to do. Visit the buzzing Honey Bee Observation Hive in the Forest Lab and get an up-close look at a thriving bee colony. You’ll make some furry friends in this exhibit where a skunk, porcupine, and beaver live.
Follow the boardwalk to the beautiful green lawns at Bell Park. The grounds were part of the larger estate of William J. Bell, a successful lumber magnate. Near the park, his magnificent mansion now houses the Art Gallery of Sudbury. Escape into the gallery for lessons in watercolour and acrylic painting.
On most treks through the park, you’ll hear rhythms coming from the Grace Hartman Amphitheatre. Join the community at one of the free outdoor concerts or plan a visit for one of Sudbury’s music festivals. Come for the Northern Lights Boréal Festival, a Sudbury fixture since 1972.

Lake Laurentian Conservation Area
The wilderness awaits
Watch the seasons and the colours change in the Lake Laurentian Conservation Area when you fly from Halifax to Sudbury.
Running through the 2,145 acres of the conservation area are the trails of Rainbow Routes. The Lake Laurentian Loop offers several levels of difficulty for the avid hiker. Trek over the steep terrain for a striking view of the entire park. During the warmer months, try biking along the easier trails for a scenic ride through the wilderness.
You can also visit the park during winter for some fun things to do outdoors. Glide past the towering red pine and white spruce while cross-country skiing. Opt for a slower pace in snowshoes over the trails, where you’ll see the footprints of squirrels, hares, and foxes dotting the landscape.
Discover the former site of the NASA satellite observatory on the NASA Trail. The observatory played a pivotal role in proving that the Earth is not perfectly round. While the dome is long gone, you can stand on the base of the station for a triumphant moment following your hike.
Along the way, make a stop at Moonlight Beach and dive into the water for a quick dip, before heading back into the woods. Follow the trails into the interesting mix use parts of the park.
Rather than buying a souvenir to take back to Halifax, get a tribute tree planted in the Tom Davies Commemorative Forest. The garden is dedicated to the former mayor of Sudbury and gives visitors a unique way to honour loved ones. It’s a special gift that just keeps growing.
