Modern fun meets old world beauty

Old World European charm and Bohemian vibes are closer than you think with flights from New York to Québec City. A balance of arts, culture and history makes Québec City a true treasure.

Old Québec is where Québec City’s old world appeal really comes to life. Here you’ll find horse-drawn carriages and old-fashioned hanging shop signs that beckon visitors into a variety of boutiques, restaurants and other stores.

History lovers will adore la Citadelle de Québec. The star-shaped Citadelle is a national historic site that boasts a hall of medals, exhibits and awe-inspiring views of the city and the St. Lawrence River. The Citadelle’s Changing of the Guard and Beating of the Retreat Ceremonies are two truly unique historical treats steeped in old European traditions.

Daring history buffs might test their bravery with an evening ghost tour. With centuries of history within the Citadelle, this tour by lantern light is not for the faint of heart.

Québec City’s most popular museum, Musée de la civilisation appeals to all ages with interactive hands-on exhibits and youth zones. The museum hosts a diverse array of collections on a variety of international topics and of course, First Nations and Québec history.

After all that exploring you’ll want to grab a bite. Why not tuck into a poutine? Canada’s hearty national dish of gravy, French fries and Québec cheese curds is best enjoyed in the province where it was first created.

Entertainment is always on the agenda with fireworks, festivals, live music, and acrobatic street performances during the summer months. While winter visitors can warm up to Québec’s large and wondrous Winter Carnival.

Book a flight from New York to Québec City and discover the historical wonders of this French-speaking city full of welcoming locals and a friendly atmosphere.

Montcalm

A work of art

Experience the quintessentially French-Canadian city of Québec by visiting the Montcalm neighbourhood on your next trip from New York to Québec City. A short trip southwest of the popular attractions of Old Québec, Montcalm offers a diverse selection of over 200 local businesses.

At the heart of Montcalm, you’ll feel the pulse of Avenue Cartier. This street is bursting with lively cafés, trendy bars, patio-fronted restaurants, speciality boutiques and art galleries.

The streets of Montcalm are often decorated with colourful art installations. Attractive storefronts, restaurant facades and patios are works of art as well.

Home of the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec, Montcalm is known as Québec City’s art district. The museum is a beautiful display of modern architecture with exhibits that will illuminate visitors’ understanding of Québécois world perspectives and French-Canadian history.

Don’t head home to New York without a stroll through Plaines d’Abraham. As essential to Québec as Central Park is to New York, this park and historical area is where a history-altering battle between French and British forces once raged.

The expansive fields of this former battlefield are now home to historical exhibits, summer concerts, cross-country skiing trails and family-focused nature celebrations. Commemorating both British and French forces, this neighbourhood houses the gorgeous Joan-of-Arc Garden, where you’ll stumble across mosaic style gardens and monuments that are beautiful in all seasons.

Quartier Petit Champlain

A small piece of big history

Quartier Petit Champlain was a 17th-century fort and trading post established by Samuel de Champlain. It’s full of French architecture and was the first permanent French settlement in North America. This square may be surrounded by beautiful brick walls, but visitors from New York will feel free while exploring the pedestrian streets of this quaint village within the city.

Today, Quartier Petit Champlain is a busy little centre of arts, culture, fashion, speciality goods and dining.

A prime example of the area’s quaintness and beauty, Notre-Dames-des-Victoires, the oldest stone church in North America, attracts visitors from around the city and around the world. The Fresque des Québécois, a fresco mural depicting a number of historic figures, is also sure to catch your eye.

See what other wonders await as you head up the stairway to this historical heaven via L'Escalier Casse-Cou. French for “the Breakneck Stairs,” this path is known for its steep incline but is regularly restored and maintained.

The Funiculaire du Vieux-Quebec is another easy way to enter Place Royale. Opt for this ascending railway route and you’ll be rewarded with spectacular views of the St. Lawrence River. Place Royale et Quartier Petit Champlain guarantees an authentic experience of local culture and history that you can take back to New York.
