Fort Creek

Embark on a tour of Fort Creek and its roving nature trails, perfect for cycling and hiking. You’ll cross-striking steel and wood bridges, over winding streams and deep ravines.

Start your journey on the John Rowswell Hub Trail; a 22 km path that loops around the entire downtown of Sault Ste. Marie. Along the way, you’ll pass a few popular points of interest, including the Ermatinger Old Stone House and the pristine waterfront with its public art exhibits.

However, the real fun begins further inland, on the Fort Creek section of the trail.

Explore 191 acres of lush greenery and wildlife in the Fort Creek Conservation Area. If you’re lucky, you may come across a natural dam, built by the iconic, Canadian beaver. Other notable woodland creatures along the trail include the regal broad-winged hawk, and shy white-tailed deer.

In between the green foliage, you’ll see an occasional hint of yellow. It’s most likely a flicker from the majestic wings of monarch butterflies. Its caterpillars are also a common sight in the park, where they feast on native milkweed plants.

Besides biking and running along its trails, the onset of snowy winters transforms the park for new outdoor activities, like snowshoeing.
