The story of these arctic mammals is sure to warm your heart. The Cochrane Polar Bear Habitat is more than just a zoo. The organization is well known for its tireless efforts in providing homes for orphaned and rescued polar bears. The Polar Bear Habitat is also a centre for research and education.
Right next to the habitat is the Heritage Village. This small area is a replica of an early 1900s settlement, complete with a general store, fire station, school, trapper’s cabin, and an operating snack shack. Have a stroll through the area or hop aboard the mini-train for a fun ride around the village.
At the nearby Snowmobile Museum, you can stop in to learn about the history of another popular mode of transportation. The museum proudly displays snowmobiles dating all the way back to the 1950s. Cochrane locals love snowmobiling and you’ll have plenty of chances to speed through the snow on the kilometres of trails within and around the town.

Lady Evelyn’s expanses offer gallons of swimming opportunities in both shallow and deep waters. Every year, thousands of visitors are drawn to the area’s mix of backcountry wilderness, collection of cascading falls, and serene landscapes characterized by towering white and red pine forests.
Lady Evelyn is most famous for being one of Ontario’s top paddling destinations. Here, experienced canoers can test their endurance and portaging skills while alternating between smooth waters, challenging drops, and rushing rapids.
From its location in the Temagami Region, the park is connected to over 2000 km of historic canoe routes. Those who are up for a challenge will find worthwhile views and exhilarating canoe trips that will keep them occupied for hours. Paddle over to the sweet paths of Maple Mountain Trail, where awe-inspiring views of the Temagami Region await atop the summit. The Ishpatina Ridge Trail (only accessible by canoe via Scarecrow Lake) rewards hikers with the chance to stand atop Ontario’s highest elevation.
