Are you a nature lover? Fly to Fredericton to explore the Saint John River by kayak or canoe, bike over 88 km of riverside trails or just hang out in the park.
Interested in exploring beyond the city limits? Choose Fredericton as your home base for authentic experiences you won’t find anywhere else. Just south beyond the city limits, you will find Fredericton Boyce Farmers Market.
Further out, you will discover award-winning Kings Landing Historical Settlement in Mactaquac Country; picturesque Hazen Park Marina in the nearby town of Oromocto; the unique hand-made treasures in the Village of Gagetown; or you can try fly-fishing for salmon on the world-famous Miramichi River.
Whether you’re on a getaway to enjoy one of many downtown restaurants and pubs, or explore the capital region, Porter will get you there in style. The sooner you book your flight to Fredericton, the sooner your plane will take off.
Garrison District
Travel back in time
After your flight to Fredericton touches down, travel back in time to the Garrison District.
This National Historic Site and Provincial Heritage Place is located in the city’s downtown core, right next to the Saint John river. The Garrison is the centre for the city’s heritage, culture, craft and entertainment.
You’ll find the perfect blend of musicians, artists, re-enactments and attractions. The Garrison also hosts several festivals throughout the summer months, including the Harvest Jazz & Blues Festival.
If you want to get a lay of the land, start your historic adventure with a free walking tour of downtown Fredericton, led by a guide in costume. Along the way, you’ll be entertained by history and folklore. You’ll learn about the Historic Garrison District, the Old Public Burial Ground and former homes of a few famous Frederictonians.
Make sure you make it back in time for the Changing of the Guard ceremony. Equipped with scarlet clothing, pipes and all, watch as the Canadian army comes to life and re-enacts this traditional ceremony with a piper and a drummer. If you’re lucky, you might be selected to inspect the guard.
If you’re searching for more history, head to Fredericton Region Museum where you’ll find several exhibitions, including displays about the history of Aboriginal and Acadian inhabitants of the area.
The museum is also home to the world famous 42-pound legend, The Coleman Frog. The story is this frog was founded in Killarney Lake by Fred Coleman. He adopted the frog as his pet and fed him june bugs, cornmeal and whiskey until the frog eventually grew to the size of a dog. This now stuffed frog is on display for all to see at the museum.
Before your flight from Fredericton departs, wander over to the Barracks Fine Craft Shops. Here, artists sell their wares in the lower level of this three-storey stone and wooden structure built by the British Army in 1827. Make sure you grab a souvenir or two from this historic landmark to bring back with you.

Get your floral fix at the Fredericton Botanic Gardens located on the upper perimeter of the park. Home to various perennial beds, from rhododendrons to azaleas, this garden continues to grow with plans to expand its collection of beautiful blooms.
After you’ve stopped to smell the roses, wind down with a picnic. Nestled at the top of the park, you’ll find a peaceful waterfowl pond, a children’s playground, disc golf and Odell Lodge.
